Extending Research-Proven Alzheimer’s Therapies to More Patients

Linus Health acquires Together Senior Health, a company built with Redesign Health

When Together Senior Health joined forces with Redesign Health in April 2022, the nearly 6 million Americans with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and related conditions had precious few science-backed solutions available to help.

In just two years, the company’s groundbreaking digital therapeutic programs—rooted in evidence-based practice—have been proven through research to significantly improve quality of life for participants with dementia and ease stress for caregivers.

Now, Together Senior Health’s mind-body programs will expand to support even more patients and caregivers through the company’s acquisition by Linus Health. Linus Health is a Boston-based digital health company focused on transforming brain health for people worldwide.

“From the beginning, we’ve been passionate about empowering older adults with memory loss, Alzheimer’s, dementia, and related conditions to live their best lives,” says Deborah Barnes, PhD, MPH, Co-Founder and Chief Science Advisor of Together Senior Health. “We’re thrilled to join Linus Health because we know that, together, we can further our collective missions and make a true difference in the lives of people with Alzehimer’s and the loved ones who care for them.”

Filling an urgent need

The need for solutions like Together Senior Health is clear. Dementia cases worldwide are expected to rise from 55 million in 2020 to 139 million in 2050. Additionally, 12% to 18% of people age 60 or older live with mild cognitive impairment.

Patients and caregivers have few options to manage the troubling symptoms and soaring costs related to cognitive decline. Individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia comprise nearly 40% of healthcare expenses for older adults, yet only 4% of health plans have a fully developed strategy to address these conditions.

Leveraging these insights, the team—led by Co-Founders Dr. Barnes and Cynthia Benjamin, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, and Alissa Meade, CEO—built Together Senior Health.

Keeping patients independent for as long as possible

The team at Together Senior Health developed the only comprehensive digital therapeutic intervention that helps people with dementia maintain physical and cognitive function and remain independent at home for as long as possible, the Moving Together™ program. Together Senior Health partners with Medicare Advantage health insurance plans, health systems, provider groups and other health care entities serving seniors to deliver the program to individuals with dementia and their caregivers.

Moving Together combines gentle movement, mindful body awareness, music, and social interaction, empowering people with cognitive decline to learn, engage, and have fun from the comfort of their home. The program is rooted in more than a decade’s worth of clinical research conducted in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco, and the National Institutes of Health.

Delivering statistically significant outcomes

"Our recent clinical trial found that Moving Together significantly improved quality of life for participants with dementia and alleviated stress for caregivers. Participants also experienced 30% fewer falls. In addition, our participants consistently report high levels of satisfaction and engagement," says Meade.

The program’s success has led to instant recognition and traction for Together Senior Health, which achieved:

  • A 96% patient satisfaction rate
  • A +72 net promoter score
  • An estimated annual cost savings of $4,300 per participant per year
  • Recognition from the Health Plan Innovation Roundtable (Spring 2023 Traction Award)

Advancing Together Senior Health’s impact

Nearly all of Together’s employees are joining Linus to build an even stronger set of resources for people with dementia and their families Dr. Barnes will serve as a consultant to Linus. Together Senior Health’s innovative, evidence-based solutions align with Linus’ strategy of delivering a comprehensive digital brain health platform which provides objective cognitive and neurological assessments and actionable guidance for both providers and patients. The combination of the entities allows Linus Health to remotely identify the early indicators of cognitive impairment and begin a lifestyle-based intervention plan at a time when it can deliver the greatest benefits to patients and their care partners.

“The results of our clinical research underscore why we’ve been so proud to create and launch Together Senior Health,” Benjamin says. “Now, together with Linus Health, we will have the ability to positively impact the lives of millions more people who live with cognitive decline.”

During a time when people with Alzheimer’s and related dementia have few proven treatments, the combination of Linus Health and Together Senior Health offers tremendous hope. Our team at Redesign Health applauds the amazing work of the entire team at Together Senior Health. We wholeheartedly believe that Linus Health will help take the company to new heights.
